Thankyou to Variety from EDP!
Wednesday, February 24, 2010
The Early Development Program (EDP) Communities for Children Seaton Central was thrilled to receive a grant of $349.00 from Variety, the Children’s Charity to purchase two writing slopes and two seat wedges. These pieces of equipment can assist children to sit much more comfortably with good posture and much less fatigue for activities such as drawing, colouring, writing, cutting and reading. Children with low muscle tone, co-ordination disorders, issues with sensory integration and a range of other special needs benefit from this type of equipment.
EDP is a Special Education and Physiotherapy program for young children with severe multiple disabilities or significant global delays. Many of the children benefit greatly from items such as these writing slopes and seat wedges. One EDP family with twins (who both have special needs of quite different types) were in need of two sets of these items. Through the prompt, generous response of Variety, the Children’s Charity, these items were able to be purchased by EDP for loan to the children. Benefits were clear over the summer school holidays with improvements in handwriting and concentration resulting from the improved posture. These items remain the property of EDP, ensuring that they will continue to be put to excellent use once the twins outgrow them.
