Port Youth Accommodation Refurbishment
Wednesday, September 24, 2008

Friday September 19th marked a very special occasion for Manager Michelle Papillo and the team at Port Youth Services. After four weeks of closure and major refurbishment the service was reopened and blessed by UCWPA minister Rev Dr Les Underwood.

Approximately 30 guests were given a tour of the new accommodation facility in which young people who are either homeless or at the risk of homelessness are housed for a period of time. This can be from just a few days to several months.

UCWPA C.E.O. Libby Craft spoke of the importance of the facility and the difference it can make to the lives of young people. " We are giving them a hand up,  not a hand out". The service focuses on providing the residents with a comfortable home, support and assistance in exploring housing and employment/education plans for the future. Every young person also receives vital information and support with developing independent living skills.

Michelle and her team are confident the new 'fresh' look and feel to the house will be something everyone will respect and enjoy.

UCWPA would like to thank the following businesses for supporting the refurbishment

Kitchen Connections
Hilton Hotel
Designer Direct
The Good Guys Mile End
SA Linen Services
SA Appliance Warehouse
Haggle Co
