Rehabilitation and Recovery Packages - Port Augusta and Whyalla

Description of the Program

The Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Packages (PRRP) provide psychosocial rehabilitation to people who experience a chronic diagnosed mental illness, and there is further funding (Strategy 6) for people who experience general mental health problems within the community. Aboriginal people are a priority.

The programs are offered across the Northern and Far Western region of country South Australia, including; Whyalla, Port Augusta, Coober Pedy, Roxby Downs, Leigh Creek, Hawker, Quorn and everywhere in-between!

The programs support and empower individuals to:

  • access and maintain long term housing
  • increase independent living skills
  • fully and actively participate in the community
  • address physical and mental health needs

Eligibility for Service

  • Complex needs affecting ability to live independently
  • Housing needs i.e. person is homeless, at risk of homelessness or inappropriate or unsustainable housing
  • Demonstrates a natural connection with the local community through current or previous residency and/or the presence of a supportive family and/ or social network
  • Willing to participate and to receive independent living support services
    Aged between 18 and 65 years
  • Experienced a mental illness or psychiatric disability that has been formally diagnosed
  • Have a key worker from either the NFWRHS Community Mental Health Team or Pika Wiya Social and Emotional Wellbeing Team

Capacity of the Program

PRRP is funded to provide 112 hours of support per week, ranging up to 16 hours per consumer per week. Strategy 6 Program is funded to provide 63 hours of support per week, ranging up to 8 hours per consumer per week.

Service and Funding Agreement

The Department of Health Mental Health Unit funds the Rehabilitation and Recovery Packages and the Strategy 6 Program. The program works in partnership with Community Mental Health Services, Pika Wiya Social and Emotional Wellbeing, Families SA and Housing SA.
