Consumer Consultants

Who are Mental Health Consumer Consultants?

Consumer Consultants are people who have experienced mental health issues themselves and work for UnitingCare Wesley Port Adelaide’s Community Mental Health Programs.

What do Consumer Consultants do?

Consumer Consultants ensure consumer participation in service policy and delivery so that services meet consumers’ needs most effectively. They do this by providing an essential consumer reference point to managers and workers of UnitingCare Wesley Port Adelaide’s Community Mental Health Programs.

Who Might Talk to a Consumer Consultant?

Anyone who receives a service from UCWPA's Community Mental Health Programs, or anyone who works for UCWPA’s Community Mental Health Programs.

For example:

  • A consumer may want to make some suggestions for improving services
  • A support worker might want to know more about a mental illness
  • A program coordinator will ask for consumer involvement when interviewing for new workers
  • A manager will require a consumer perspective about policy

Service and Funding Agreement

The program has one full time position funded by a grant from the Mental Health Unit, Department of Health.  Working in the position are two part-time Consumer Consultants.
