Employment Access Elizabeth

Employment Access Elizabeth provides professional guidance and support to people with disabilities, particularly mental health related disabilities, to gain and maintain employment.

Eligibility:
Job Seekers with barriers to employment are assessed by Centrelink using a Job Capacity Assesment to determine eligibility. Job Seekers may start this process by making an appointment with Employment Access to discuss their training and employment needs, or alternatively contact a Centrelink Disability Officer.

How the Program Works:
Job Seekers work on a one to one or group basis with a Vocational Consultant to develop a comprehensive Activity Agreement to meet employment goals and needs. Actions may include:

  • Skills Review
  • Resume Preparation
  • Career Planning
  • Training Needs Analysis
  • Job Search Techniques
  • Interview Skills
  • Cold canvassing to employers
  • Work Experience Placements to determine job suitability and gain references
  • On going support after employment achieved
  • Opportunities to breakdown other barriers to employment

Other Features:

  • Staff experienced in Mental Health issues
  • Accredited Office Skills/Computer Training at Elizabeth and City sites
  • Accredited Occupational, Health, Safety and Welfare Training
  • Financial Incentives to Employers to train new workers
  • Confidence building and personal effectiveness activities
  • Job clubs/ workshops are ran and designed to achieve more employment opportunities.

Elizabeth Supported Employment  (STEP Enterprises)

A supported Work Program in Gardening, House/Office Cleaning, Car Detailing and Light Manufacturing for people with a Mental Health Related Disability

STEP Enterprise Workers

Eligibility:
Job Seekers with a Mental Health Disability are given priority Eligibility assessed by Centrelink via Work Ability Table [WAT] score Job Seekers can make an appointment at STEP Enterprises to initially discuss their needs or alternatively contact the Centrelink Disability Officer.

STEP Enterprise Workers

How the Programs work:

  • Workers in the program become registered business partners.
  • Contract requires a minimum of 8 hours attendance per week over 2 days
  • Fortnightly earnings supplement Disability Pension or *Newstart Allowance [*subject to Centrelink approval]

  • Staff experienced in Mental Health issues
  • Individual Program Plans developed to help develop good work practices
  • On the job training and support
  • Accredited Work place training modules available
  • Involvement in the decision making process of a Small Business
  • Business profits paid to workers as a bonus
  • Confidence building, personal effectiveness and organised social activities
  • Access to the Competitive Employment program when ready for Open Employment
