Metro Community Living South

Description of the Program

A community support and housing program for people with a mental illness who have high support needs living in the southern suburbs of Adelaide. The program provides psychosocial rehabilitation support in partnership with Noarlunga Mental Health Services and a range community and housing agencies. The Metro Community Living South Program has been operating since 2003.

Metro Community Living South supports and empowers individuals to:

  • access and maintain long term housing
  • increase independent living skills
  • fully and actively participate in the community
  • address physical and mental health needs.

Eligibility for Service

  • Current consumer of Noarlunga Mental Health Services with high level complex needs (Prone to relapse, severe and enduring disability as a result of poor mental health, with a range of psychosocial needs).
  • Eligible for Category one with SAHT, have a SAHT tenancy currently, or meet ‘exceptional needs’ criteria.
  • In need of flexible support.
  • Homeless or at risk of homelessness.
    Established connection with the Noarlunga region.
  • Willing to engage in the support.


Capacity of the Program

Metro Community Living South has the capacity to provide 159 hours of support per week.  Equates to supporting 10 to 13 consumers receiving 5 – 30 hours of support per week, depending on hours required and distribution.

Service and Funding Agreement

The Department of Health Mental Health Unit have contracted UCWPA to manage the program.

This program operates within the Noarlunga Supported Accommodation Program (NSAP) a formal partnership comprising of:

  • UnitingCare Wesley Port Adelaide
  • Noarlunga Mental Health Services
  • South Australian Housing Trust (SAHT)
  • Noarlunga Mental Health Consumer Advisory Group
  • A reference group comprising of representatives from each of the partners provides the overall guidance and support for the development, ongoing operation and evaluation of the program.
