Western Perinatal Support Program
The Western Perinatal Support group is an initiative of the Division of Mental health at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the Australian Government through Communities for Children. Uniting Care Wesley Port Adelaide has been appointed to facilitate the Communities for Children project in the western suburbs.
The group assists families who are experiencing emotional or mental health difficulties around the time of childbirth and currently runs a nine week closed group program and a supported intensive playgroup. Emotional distress and issues concerning mental health are delicate and personal matters for families to confront. The group can provide an important link in the support and management of mental health problems in a safe, community based education and support program.
