Providing A Home
Port Youth Accommodation Program provides responsive, flexible support and housing to homeless young people aged 12-25 years who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in the western suburbs. These are provided through either the 24 hour staffed service or the Outreach team who provide support in rental accommodation or public housing.
Western Connections works alongside Port Youth Accommodation Program supporting young people with drug abuse issues and providing alternative lifestyles to minimise the risk of entering the legal system.
Portway Housing Association Inc provides long term affordable housing to low income families, young people and people with a mental health related disability. The properties are predominantly in the western region of Adelaide.
Community Support
Ethnic Link Services aims to assist the frail aged, people with disabilities and their carers from diverse language and cultural backgrounds to access appropriate support services so that they can remain living independent lives in their own homes and communities. Staff assist clients to identify their needs and link them to a range of supports. Ethnic Link also works with service providers encouraging and assisting them to be more sensitive to the needs of people from diverse language and cultural backgrounds.
UnitingCare Wesley Port Adelaide has been a leading provider of housing and community based recovery and psychosocial support services for people with a mental illness in South Australia. We are proud to have been providing these services since 1996. Since 1996 there has been considerable growth in the number and diversity of Community Mental Health Programs provided by UCWPA. As of June 2006 UCWPA has 14 programs providing support to over 400 consumers. Among the variety of programs are
Paralowie Youth Service is based at Paralowie House, and is a community facility for young people in the Salisbury area. It offers diverse programs and services on site, and connect young people with key services and activities in the wider community.
Supporting Individuals, Families & Communities
Family & Support Services provide a comprehensive range of professional individual and family support services through direct service provision and referral to appropriate agencies. Programs include:
Strengthening Families in the West works with parents to help them develop and maintain effective, positive parenting and family relationships. A preventative approach is utilised to mobilise informal caring community resources to strengthen and support parents.
Emergency Assistance provides practical assistance to people in financial or other crisis, who live in the local area. Services include food vouchers and parcels, free bread, free used clothing and linen.
Financial Counselling is available by appointment to people living in the western suburbs of Adelaide. No interest and low interest loans are available to people on fixed low incomes. Eligibility criteria apply.
Kurlakurlando (Indigenous Parenting Support Services) provides a culturally appropriate and sensitive service to Aboriginal families with young children.
The Taperoo Community Centre provides a range of affordable courses, groups and workshops for people in the local community.
Men and Family Relationships Program offers a range of services including individual and family counselling, support groups and educational courses on parenting and relationship skills.
Taikurtinna Wiltarendi provides support for Aboriginal families living in the western suburbs.
The Supported Tenancy Program Project provides support to nominated Housing SA tenants to assist them in maintaining their tenancy. Services include information and referral, advocacy and support and links with community services.
The Boarding House Outreach Support Program provides support and assistance to people living in boarding houses in the north western suburbs of Adelaide.
The Supported Residential Facilities Support (West) Program supports adults who live in Supported Residential Facilities (SRFs) in the western suburbs of Adelaide and who are assessed as being of high and complex need.
The Personal Support Program works with people with a range of barriers to securing a job and supports them to address those issues as well as assisting them to access intensive employment assistance, training or other employment services.
Free legal and welfare rights clinics are provided by the Welfare Rights Centre.
Preparing For Work
Employment Access includes out-reach services at Alberton, Elizabeth, Christies Beach, Whyalla, Mount Gambier and Clubhouse SA Inc and are competitive employment, training and placement services which provide pre-employment and post-placement support to job seekers with mental health related disabilities.
Port Business Partnerships is a business service that provides work programs for people with mental health related disabilities in the areas of industrial sewing, office/house cleaning, garden maintenance, car detailing and light industrial process work and packaging. Workers are registered as Business Partners and have the choice of working 1 - 5 days per week and have the opportunity to share in the profits of the business, decision making and day to day running of the business.
