Wesley House Aged Care Facility is accredited and provides 46 High Care beds, with 5 having a priority for residents of Russian origin.  There are also 76 Low Care beds, including two respite rooms.  10 Independent Living Units are situated on site.

The Management Team has an ’open door’ policy so residents or family members may raise issues or concerns at any time.

The Wesley Whisper is a monthly newsletter that keeps residents informed of happenings around the home. Residents are encouraged to have in put to the management of the facility through regular Residents Meetings, Food Committees, participation in surveys and feedback sheets in each Newsletter.

Visits from well behaved pets are welcome while a rabbit and fish have a permanent home at Wesley.

The Chaplain conducts services on Wednesday and Sunday mornings and all residents are welcome. Representatives from other religious groups visit regularly and residents are welcome to have visits from their personal spiritual adviser.

Residents are encouraged to maintain the services of their usual medical practitioner and have regular access to a physiotherapist and podiatrist. Services of a speech therapist and other allied health practitioners are available on an as needs basis.  

Wesley House is a smoke free environment and smoking is not permitted anywhere on the premises.

Low Care

Accommodation is provided in single rooms with ensuite. Each room is furnished with a bed, wardrobe and lockable set of drawers. Residents are welcome to bring in items of furniture along with photos, paintings and personal items as will fit in the room without impinging on the safety of staff work practices.

An activity room, small lounges and a large entertainment area are available for community activities.

An enclosed patio area is available to allow residents to access the outdoors safely.

Wesley House Low Care is managed by a Care Coordinator with support from registered and enrolled nurses, personal care workers and domestic staff. Lifestyle coordinators are employed six days a week to assist residents in meeting lifestyle preferences within the confines of community living.

A policy of ’Ageing in Place’ has been adopted and while every effort is made to continue to provide care when residents are assessed as ’high care’ or ’nursing home level’, if care needs are unable to be met, residents will be required to move to the nursing home when a bed becomes available.

High Care

Wesley House High Care (entrance First Avenue) received three years accreditation in July 2006 and staff are committed to maintaining a culture of continuous improvement to ensure that resident’s clinical care needs and life style preferences are met.

Accommodation is provided in single and share rooms with some ensuite or nearby bathrooms. Each room is furnished with a bed, wardrobe and bedside cabinet. Residents are welcome to bring small items of furniture such as a television or comfortable chair along with photos, paintings and other personal items as will fit in the room without impinging on the safety of staff work practices or the space of another resident if sharing a room.

A large Day Room is available for community activities and there are smaller lounge rooms available for entertaining family and friends. Three enclosed patio areas are available to allow residents to access the outdoors safely.

Wesley House High Care is managed by the Clinical Nurse Consultant with support from registered and enrolled nurses, personal care workers and domestic staff. Lifestyle coordinators are employed seven days a week to assist residents in meeting lifestyle preferences within the confines of community living. Some staff speak Russian or a Slavic language to assist in meeting resident’s linguistic and cultural needs.

Waiting lists are held and all appropriate applications are reviewed at the time of vacancy and the site management team will offer accommodation to the applicant deemed to be in greatest need.
