Can I do volunteer work to qualify for my Centrelink payment?
Yes, if you receive an allowance (i.e. Newstart) from Centrelink that asks you to do volunteer work (i.e. 15 hours per week) to qualify for your payments we can generally help you meet all, or part of, that commitment. This depends on the vacancies that exist.

Can I get a reference from UnitingCare Wesley Port Adelaide?
After volunteering for a period of three months or more, you can request that your Volunteer Coordinator acts as a referee.

Can I go on holidays?
Everyone needs a break and we encourage you to plan some time away from your volunteer tasks. Let your Volunteer Coordinator know in advance when you intend to be away so that suitable arrangements can be made in your absence.

Do I get trained for my volunteer role?
Training opportunities will be available to volunteers depending on funding and training needs. Please speak with your Volunteer Coordinator.

Do I need experience to be a volunteer?
UnitingCare Wesley Port Adelaide makes every effort to match you to the role that will suit you the best. We are interested in utilising the skills that you have attained through your life and work experience.

Do I require a police check?
Yes, all volunteers must have a police clearance before commencement. This is free of charge and will be organised by your Volunteer Coordinator at UnitingCare Wesley Port Adelaide.

How many hours/days a week do I have to commit to my volunteering role?
There is no pressure regarding the time you wish to provide. Complete flexibility will be provided to organise times that best suit you and UnitingCare Wesley Port Adelaide. Once a time is agreed upon, committment would be appreciated.

Who can volunteer?
Anyone is welcome to volunteer, including people seeking work experience; parents with spare time during the day; older people who want to stay active; professionals who want to be involved in community initiatives; companies that want to donate their staff's time and expertise; community groups and even enthusiasts.

Why should I volunteer?
People volunteer for many reasons, including to develop new skills; gain experience for pathways into employment; increase confidence and self esteem; have fun and feel self-satisfied; make new friends; be actively involved in the community; take on new challenges; lend a helping hand.

Will I be reimbursed for out of pocket expenses?
All out of pocket expenses approved by a Program Coordinator at UnitingCare Wesley Port Adelaide will be reimbursed.
