It was smiles all around at our Family Centre today when we cooked up a storm for UnitingCare’s annual Pancake Day.

Hundreds of pancakes were cooked by the amazing volunteers at Rapid Relief Team (RRT) as part of their ongoing support of our services.

People from across the community came in for a free bite to eat and a chat – and to watch the pancake cooking festivities.

Marketing and Events Officer Clarisse Semler-Hanlon says Pancake Day is always such a wonderful opportunity to bring the community together for a good cause.

Pancake fun facts:

  • In 1439 the first pancake recipe appeared in history
  • In 1445 the first Pancake Races were recorded in England
  • Pancake Races were first held to use up all the flour, eggs and dairy products before the start of Lent
  • The custom gradually evolved until Shrove Tuesday became the traditional day to eat pancakes in many countries world-wide.
