More than 150 people gathered to celebrate the official launch of our new-look Wesley House Aged Care home in Semaphore Park this week.
The $40 million redevelopment was on show during an afternoon tea on Tuesday, May 2, which included speeches from our Board Chair Gael Fraser, CEO Libby Craft and Uniting Church SA Moderator Rev. Sue Ellis.
Historical photos were on display showing the amazing transformation from the original old villa, which opened in 1951, to a two-storey state-of-the-art building.
Images of the historical building and the modern rebuild also adorned a cake, which was cut as part of the official proceedings.
Among the residents enjoying the festivities was Alfred Ford, 87, who moved to Wesley House from our former Morpeth Aged Care home in October.
“I love the rooms and the attitude of the people who work here,” Mr Ford says.
“Today has been a really beautiful event all around.”
Gwenda Phillips, 93, has lived at Wesley House for 21 years and keenly watched the transition to the modern building it is today.
“Wesley House has been home for me because my family is scattered all over the world,” she says.
“It’s amazing to see so many people here today.
“It has been really wonderful.”
Wesley House is now home to 166 residents, who each have their own room and ensuite.
The redevelopment also includes a memory support unit for residents with dementia, a café, hairdresser, large activity spaces and outdoor landscaped gardens.
